baby shower invitations

i have been working on invitations for an upcoming baby shower. the mother-to-be chose the wren collection crib bedding from serena and lily. she wanted to use the pattern on the linens as design inspiration for the invitations. with the gorgeous embroidered bedding as my muse, i went to work. the invitations are printed on a white scalloped edge card that is fixed to a slightly larger baby blue rectangle card. this layering gives emphasis to the sweet scallops, and provides nice rigidity and weight. on each of the invitations, i hand painted a winding curling vine and coral berries with guache. this makes each invitation slightly different, and makes them all very distinctive.

adding a registry enclosure card was the perfect opportunity to incorporate the little bird from the bedding. the enclosure card is printed on white cardstock and then fixed to blue cardstock. each card is then individually cut to the proper size giving a clean edged, double layer card to match the invitation, but not compete. i then hand painted each card with a little bird and vine that matches the bedding.

the two invitation components were tucked in to a matching blue envelope to be sent to the guests.
